How can I recover my File in a lost partion in my external hardisk?

Can I recover my files in a lost partion ? It happened when I accidentally mislooked while formating a hardisk, I selected the one with my files. Is it possible that i could recover my files? What tools or software can I use to recover it? And what procedures to be done.
